market mafia

The weekend is upon us, Market Mafia! With over 15 events on the calendar this weekend alone, we know it’s tough to game plan for where you’ll choose to #HitTheMarket. I’d like to suggest everyone’s favorite up and coming neighborhood, Seminole Heights. With sooo many amazing, independent businesses popping up left and right, it’s easy to make a fun-filled day out of your market adventure. See below my recommendations!

1. Jet City Espresso

Bringing a little Seattle-style coffee flavor to Tampa Bay, Jet City set up shop in the area back in the mid ’90s. Coffees, smoothies, teas and delectable eats; this community cafe has just what you want, even offering up paleo and gluten free options. Jet City Cafe Boriga is their trademarked, signature drink…a honey and orange infused latte. Good morning indeed!

2. Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market

Hosted on the lawns of the gorgeous Hillsborough High School, this venue screams Sunday morning goodness. Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market is one of the many run by Tampa Bay Markets and is everything you’ve come to expect and love from a TB Markets event. This market is every second Sunday of the month, 10A-2P and offers finds from more than 70 vendors.

3. Armature Works

One of the long-awaited additions to The Heights neighborhood is none other than Armature Works and it’s now open to the public! Market Mafia was lucky enough to enjoy the soft opening last week and it was an absolute BLAST. From the gorgeous exposed brick to the trendiest lighting elements and fresh wood floors – this multi-purpose building is something for the senses to behold. Heights Public Market is now home to some of the best food around; Graze 1910, Cru Cellars and Zukku Sushi are just a few options to get you drooling. On Sundays Armature Works is open from 9A-9P, so whether you are craving breakfast, booze or brunch, they have you covered (but check websites for specific eateries, as times do vary).

4. Southern Brewing & Winemaking

This brewery is included on the Tampa Bay Ale Trail, and has the loveliest outdoor patio – ideal for sipping in the February sun. Catch a class on how to concoct your very own home-brew and pick up supplies to get the job done. Fun fact: Seminole Heights Sunday Morning Market’s smaller summer series is hosted here!

5. Vintage Post Marketplace

I love vintage. Antiques, re-purposed anything, consignment, etc. All are music to my ears. Stop in here to find all this and more. Their goods are so stinkin’ fabulous and they are now open 7 days a week for your shopping pleasure.

6. Independent Bar & Cafe

“Founded on a vision to support non-commercial craft products, independent music, and encourage & inspire a sense of community among patrons,” the Independent has been thriving in Seminole Heights for years. At Independent, live music can often be found on the weekends; you can check their events calendar on their site for dates and times. They have 14 taps that rotate daily and are updated here, so check back often to see what’s new, delicious and LOCAL!
